Product Description

Chemozinc EP is a two-component anticorrosive epoxy-based primer for metal substrates. It has strong adhesion, fast dryin,g and it gives excellent corrosion protection to various metal substrates. It is specially formulated for extremely demanding applications. It contains more than 80% zinc on dry film.

Uses

  • In Factories for platforms, pipelines, refineries, petrochemical plants, and bridges.
  • Equipment, vessels, and machines are exposed to the atmosphere.
  • Can be used on metal roof surfaces, aluminium sheets, etc, to protect from an aggressive environment.

Storage Conditions/Shelf Life

12 months from date of mfg. If stored properly in undamaged seal packaging, at a temperature between 5°C and- 30°C. It should be kept in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from heat, direct sunlight, sparks, and children.

Method of Application

Substrate Preparation

Substrate must be clean and dry. Remove all loose existing coatings, heavy rust, debris, and oil by solvent cleaning. Remove Weld spatters by grinding. Sharp edges of Welding, if any, must be rounded off. Perform Abrasive blasting with an average surface profile of 40 to 75 microns. The relative humidity of the substrate should not exceed 85% and the substrate temperature should be more than 3°C above the Dew Point to avoid condensation of moisture onto the substrate prior to coating application.

Priming

Apply Chemozinc EP with airless spray (preferred method) with a tip size of 0.53 – 0.58 mm and at 110 –160 kg/cm2 pressure. For application with a Traditional air spray gun, additional dilution may be required. For difficult shapes, or touch-up application can be done with a brush. For brush application, two coats may be required to achieve the desired film thickness.

Cleaning of Tools

Clean all tools and application equipment with a suitable thinner like EP 140 immediately after use. Hardened and/or cured material can only be removed mechanically.

Attention

Apply a mist coat of topcoat paint before the final application of topcoat to avoid Craters or blisters.

  • Do not overapply. Over-application may cause an increase in curing time and adhesion failure of the overcoating.
  • During or after application, exposure to low temperatures and/or high humidity may cause incomplete cure and thus cause failure in subsequent intercoat adhesion.

Handling and safety

Avoid direct contact. Wear personal protective equipment like chemical-resistant goggles/gloves/clothing, etc., to prevent direct contact with skin and eyes. Apply in well-ventilated areas. Open doors and windows during use.
