Chempoxy coal tar

It is a 2 component epoxy coal tar protective coating for steel and concrete

Product Description

Chempoxy Coal tar is a 2-component epoxy coal tar protective coating having excellent chemical, abrasion, corrosion, and scratch resistance. It is suitable for steel and concrete substrates. It can be directly applied to a metal surface without any application of primer.

Uses

  • Steel and concrete pipelines.
  • Steel structures exposed to an aggressive environment
  • Crude oil storage tanks / underground structures.
  • Dams, Barrage gates, Penstocks.
  • Foundation walls and sumps.
  • Concrete and Steel surfaces in the sewage treatment plant.
  • Paper Mills / Chemical Plants.

Salient Features

  • Self-Priming Property. Can be applied directly to the prepared Concrete or Metal Surface.
  • Flexible anti-corrosive / protective coating for structures – MS or concrete – even where the structure is in continuous contact with water.
  • Provides excellent resistance to impact, thermal shock, and abrasion.
  • Excellent resistance to sea/salt water, oil, acids, alkalis, crude oil, and minerals.

Technical information

Excellent resistance is observed against distilled water, detergent solutions, dilute alkalis, and dilute acids.

Method of Application

1 Surface preparation:

Grind or prepare the substrate with a wire brush or other suitable equipment, and remove dust and friable particles . Clean the surface with a vacuum. Ensure that the surface is free of contaminants like oil, grease, etc. Ensure the ambient temperature is not less than 10 °C and not more than 50 °C at the time of coating.

2. Priming

Priming is usually not necessary. Most substrates only require priming if testing indicates a need. Consult Chemsol solution experts for additional information.

3. Mixing and Application of Material

Stir each component thoroughly. Mix component A and B in a prescribed ratio with a slow-speed stirrer fitted with a suitable mixing paddle to a homogenous and uniform mixture for 2 minutes. Ensure that there is no entrapped air. Apply the above mix directly on the concrete surface or metal surface. Apply Chemozinc EP if required in case of a metal surface before application of Chempoxy Coal Tar Apply the first coat of Chempoxy coal tar on the prepared surface by brush/roller/spray. Allow it to touch dry for 4-5 hrs (depending on ambient conditions) If required, apply a second coat of Chempoxy coal tar. While the application is with an airless spray, use standard equipment having a tip size minimum of 23 thou and a tip pressure of 2200-2400 psi

Cleaning of Tools

Clean all tools and application equipment with thinner PUT502 immediately after use. Hardened and/or cured material can only be removed mechanically.

Packing

Chempoxy coal tar Resin and Hardener are available in pre measured kit of 5 lit and 1lit.

Storage Conditions

Store in dry and covered shed between 200C to 30oC away from sources of heat and naked flame.

Handling & Safety

Keep the containers tightly sealed when not in use. Avoid skin contact and inhalation of fumes (if any). While spraying, it is advised to wear a mask. If it comes in contact with the body, wash affected parts with plenty of water. In case of persistent irritation, contact a physician.
