- Excellent resistance to water, mild acids, alkali, and soluble metal salts.
Method of Application
1. Surface Preparation
- Surface should be clean, dry, and in sound condition.
- All surface dirt, grease, and heavy rust should be removed using solvent. Remove weld spatters and sharp edges of welding by grinding.
- Perform abrasive blasting with an average surface profile of 40 to 75 microns.
- Relative humidity of the substrate should not exceed 85% and substrate temperature should be more than 3°C above dew point to avoid condensation of moisture before coating application.
- All other previous coatings, if any, shall be completely removed.
2. Application
- Grind and treat all surface defects after blast cleaning. Remove dust from the surface.
- Ensure that the surface to be coated is clean, dry, and free from contaminants.
- Apply Chem Metal Prime immediately after blasting to prevent oxidation and recontamination of the steel surface.
- Apply Chem Metal Prime with airless spray (preferred method) using a tip size of 0.53 – 0.58 mm at 110 –160 kg/cm² pressure.
- For application with a traditional air spray gun, additional dilution may be required.
- For difficult shapes or touch-up, application can be done with a brush. Two coats may be required to achieve the desired film thickness.
- In case of oxidation or recontamination, re-blast to the required standard.
Precautions and Limitations
- Apply a mist coat of topcoat paint before final application of the topcoat to avoid craters or blister formation.
- Do not over-apply. Over-application may increase curing time and cause adhesion failure of overcoating.
- During or after application, exposure to low temperatures and/or high humidity may cause incomplete cure and failure in subsequent coat adhesion.
- Keep material closed when not in use.
- Do not apply when rain is expected in a short time span.
